Albert could always make me smile

Created by Amy 2 years ago

Im posting this for Mum.

One of the many things that attracted me to Albert was his ability to make me laugh & smile, even on the darkest days. His sense of fun lasted virtually to the end. In the last 16 weeks, Albert was in bed & the Staff were turning him every hour or two. Just a few days before he finally went to sleep, the Staff were ready to turn him when he suddenly said, quite loudly, "watch what you are doing". At this point no one had touched him & we all laughed. The words were appropriate at the time, & were said with the right intonation but completely out of the blue. One of the Staff when she went into his room, would say "it's me again" or something similar, & Albert would respond facially by pulling a face or raising an eyebrow, but it was all in fun to him. Just before Albert's health deteriorated at the end of September, Amy & I were with him & they were play fighting with their hands. He was laughing & teasing her as he always did. It was lovely to see. I miss his happy, smiling face but in my heart he will always be with me, & as long as I don't get dementia, I will have my memories of the wonderful man I was proud to call my husband.
